Santa Leaves the Pole to Visit GNS

Joan Vella - that lovely lady at the front office, enjoys a special moment with Santa.

GNS Sydney played host to a jolly old soul this afternoon - Santa Claus dropped in for a flying visit to tell one and all that he was looking forward to working hard for each and every Newspower store this Christmas.

Indeed, he wanted everyone to know that Newspower members were going to have the best Christmas EVER because the magical man in the red suit would be in every Newspower store - handing out the Newspower Christmas brochure of incredible specials.

Before he left the building he managed to find some time to look over the Christmas display and to give a cuddle to a couple of special GNS girls (who have been extra good this year!)

So when you visit your Newspower store this Christmas, keep a look-out for a very special staff-member carrying the presents and holding the brochure - maybe even listen out for a ho, ho, ho.

Brilliant Mate, Well Done

Hello All,

I just took a call from a member in NSW who I shall not embarrass - he wanted to thank us for his Diary promotion. These type of phone calls make the job so worthwhile - here is a good retailer, having a go in tough times and doing a bloody good job.

He uses everything we send him - and lets me know when things are good (or not so good). Today his call was to say, "Brilliant mate, bloody well done. The box is a good change, and the entry pads and header are top notch. You're worth more money!"
Needless to say, I've passed his comments onto the Board!
A reminder, as soon as your brochures and visual kit arrive in store - get them out on display. Also, you can log-into the Newspower website to download a coded brochure (excl. SA/NT) and import the CSV files into your POS system.

DIRECT MARKETING
I've suggested to a few people that they use their database to send their brochures to business accounts, along with a covering letter. If you need some help with this, or you have not approached us for a database, then please contact your local Newspower office.

Multimedia Training Another Great Initiative From Newspower Australia

Newspower members now enjoy access to a highly professional, Internet delivery, training package called Power Training.
Members will receive links via email that they can simply click to download. The video presentations will relate to upcoming Newspower promotions or they might include advice and assistance on how members can improve their overall business management and performance.
The first of these presentations features our partnership with Coca Cola Amatil. Members wanting to know more about the Newspower/CCA Agreement need only to click on the link and enjoy the presentation:
http://newspower.com.au/planogram.html
"It is all about improving the delivery of our communication to members" said Newspower National Manager, Greg Talbot. "We know our members are time-poor and often not able to get along to central locations to attend training. By delivering highly informative, brief, multimedia messages using the Internet, our members can access this training at a time and a place that meets their needs. Staff can view the modules; messages will be tailored to suit seasonal activity and our partners and suppliers can join with us in reaching our membership through an innovative and inexpensive platform."
The Power Training initiative fulfills Talbot's commitment to members to provide retail training within current membership fee structures.
"When you look at our membership package, you can see that Newspower constantly delivers additional benefits to members without levying for extra charge. Our challenge is to not only maintain our level of membership support, but to increase it, without the need to have members pay for the extra services. We have been able to do this because we are extremely careful with our expenditures. We are a not-for-profit organisation and that means we run lean. I'm not sure that can be said for other groups in our channel."
Newspower Australia is looking to partner with key suppliers wanting to access this dynamic and exciting communications tool. All enquiries should be directed to Greg Talbot, National Manager gtalbot@newspower.com.au or 0418 212 375 to discuss this wonderful new initiative.

"Welcome to the Family" - Newspower Steering Committee in action

Ray Murray (Newspower QLD), Jenny Keys (Gatton Plaza), Pattie & Tai (Sherwood Newspower).

"We are family! The Newspower family We must stick together for one another."

Jenny Keys knows the value of Newspower members working together to strengthen the Newspower brand and in doing so, providing strong leadership for all members to emulate.
Jenny and David from Gatton Plaza Newspower have been vocal supporters for many years and their loyalty and determination to Newspower was on display for all to see at the GNS market fair, Brisbane last weekend.
Jenny and David joined fellow QLD Steering Committee members Robert and Sonia Reid (Toowoomba) and Jenny Crow (Birkdale) on the Newspower stand over the weekend.
In the picture above, Jenny welcomes brand new newsagent's Pattie and Tai from Sherwood Newspower to our group - and our industry.
"We need to support new entrants, like Pattie and Tai, helping them through the early stages while they come to grips with owning a newsagency. This is exactly the support Newspower members can offer one another. The big Newspower family".
Of course these bright, enthusiastic young people will face some challenges in business but with the support of quality retailers like David and Jenny Keys guiding them, they are bound for success. The Keys will help mentor our newest members and according to Jenny, it won't be 'Big Brother'...more Aunty Jenny. "Pattie and Tai just need to know we are here for them when they need us. It will be wonderful to watch their development and to be able to help them when it is needed - welcome to the family."
In QLD the Newspower Steering Committee members are:
  • David and Jenny Keys, Gatton Plaza Newspower
  • Andrew Clews, Clews Newspower, Woodford
  • Robert Reid, South Street Newspower, Toowoomba
  • Mathew Howard, Melany Newspower
  • Jenny Crow, Birkdale Newspower

The Committee is also represented by Ray Murray State Manager, Newspower QLD and Geoff Sugden, State Manager, GNS QLD.

QLD Market Fair Amazing

The GNS Market Fair in Brisbane was a hugely positive event for so many reasons.
Once again QLD newsagents demonstrated their commitment to their industry by travelling long distances and buying-up big over the weekend. The suppliers I spoke to were glowing in their praise for the event - especially as newsagent participation translated into sales!

Ray Murray with Narelle from Cunningham's Newspower Charter's Towers.

Newspower State Manager, Ray Murray, who has seen a few of these events in his time, rated it as one of the best. "We had more than 120 members visit the Newspower stand, with most wearing Newspower branded Polo shirts or shirts and blouses. Our members appreciated the new initiatives, especially the introduction of new product lines like our Exclusive Christmas Gift range and the DVD's."
A selection of stock offered to Newspower members

I was on there as National Manager to lend a hand and talk with QLD members about their business. Apart from the fantastic turn-out, the most positive thing from my viewpoint was to see passionate, dedicated, motivated Newspower members, working on the stand, side-by-side with Newspower staff to help promote the Newspower brand. 5 members of the QLD Steering Committee gave up their time, generously, leading other members through the various displays and offers and sharing their advice and experiences to all.
'Rowdy' Reid and Jenny Crow - Steering Committee Members on hand to help members.

I'd like to take this moment to offer special thanks to Jenny and David Keys from Gatton Plaza Newspower, Sonia and Robert (Rowdy) Reid, South Street Newspower, Toowomba and Jenny Crow, Birkdale Newspower, for their generous support and unyielding passion for this brand and our industry. It was also great to see the remaining Steering Committee members, Andrew and Marlene from Clew's Newspower and Matt and Denise Howard from Maleny Newspower who stopped by for a friendly chat and do a bit of networking with new prospects thinking of joining the group - thanks to you guys, you are terrific!
Terry and Shirley from Emu Park Newspower with Ray Murray

And so ends another market fair season - certainly our most successful ever. On behalf of the entire Newspower Australia team, thank you to all our members who visited our stands; who offered praise and constructive advice; who purchased our new stock and who contributed to making these events so successful.

Coca Cola Amatil 'Proud' of Newspower Partnership.

Newspower members, buying under an exclusive trading agreement between Coca Cola Amatil and Newspower Australia enjoy extra discounts, increased profits and access to an exclusive promotional program.
And Coca Cola Amatil is very 'proud of our association with Newspower' according to CCA Business Development Executive, David McNamee.

David was on hand, together with Peter Ballantyne, the National Business Manager for CCA to participate in an exciting new initiative between the two partners - a video presentation for Newspower members and CCA field staff, outlining all the features and benefits of the Newspower/CCA Agreement.
Newspower retained Sydney marketing firm, McMonigal & Associates to produce the video which will available for members to download from the Newspower website. CCA field staff will also use the tool to demonstrate the benefits of the agreement to members when they call on Newspower stores. The Newspower stand at the Sydney GNS Market Fair was the backdrop for the filming of the video, which took place last Friday evening.

CCA Business Development Executive, David McNamee joins Newspower National Manager, Greg Talbot to proclaim the benefts of the Newspower/CCA Trading agreement for members.

"Coca Cola Amatil Australia is an amazing company to work with" said Newspower National Manager, Greg Talbot. "They are innovative, exciting and highly professional. We are fortunate to enjoy such a great relationship, because it means our members gain access to the leading brands in the market, with extra discounts. Extra discounts mean extra profits" said Talbot.

The shooting of the video was not without it's share of trails and tribulations and what was intended as a four minute presentation took around 3 hours to film. "We thought the Dome, the venue for the GNS Fair would be ideal, but unfortunately there was still a lot of background noise as exhibitors put the finishing touches on their stands" said Peter Ballentyne from CCA. "The Dome seemed to amplify the noise as well, which made it difficult, but we got there in the end."

"We would have got there sooner, if Greg had turned off his mobile" said McNamee jokingly. Its clear the trio enjoy a good relationship and the whole experience is another example of how much respect there is between Newspower and CCA.

Talbot was quick to praise CCA for their support of the initiative. "Were moving towards delivery of training modules for our members using multi-media and the Internet. This is the third in our training videos and the first involving one of our key supply partners. The support we received from CCA, especially from Peter as our National Account Manager has been tremendous."

"The message of the video is simple" said Talbot, "buy under the agreement, maintain the cooler to planogram, with particular attention to the core range of products, position the cooler in a good location and you will grow sales and profits."

The video will be available for viewing on the Newspower website shortly, but in the meantime the CCA Business Unit is standing by to help Newspower members grow their profits.

Simply call 13 COKE (13 2653) and ask about the Newspower CCA Agreement.

Talbot thinks Sydney Fair 'Best Ever' for Newspower

The GNS Sydney Market Fair was probably our best ever.

We had record numbers through our stand over the two days, with loads of positive and proactive members converging to discuss our exciting plans for 2010 as well as a stack of new membership enquiries from newsagents wanting to join the group. But the most exciting thing of all was the amount of members who came and stayed, and met existing members and discussed business.

Sharing ideas, sharing successes, solving problems - the power of the Newspower marketing group is its membership, and on the weekend, that power was there for all to see.

And our members came from far and wide - from the far west to the inner city; from the Murry to the Tweed, members came and they told us they liked what they saw:

  • Market Power - a 12 month promotional program, presented in a high-quality marketing folder, displaying promotions for every category for every month.

  • Brand Power - new branding, identity and signage solutions to reinforce the power of the Newspower brand.

  • Product Power - a new group-buying program for non-core product.

The Newspower membership package offers so much more than a catalogue at Back to School or a colouring competition for Easter. Membership in Newspower provides newsagents with an opportunity to come together, under one united banner to compete with the big businesses intent on destroying the competitive advantages we maintain.

That message was not lost on the many new newsagents who visited our stand and engaged in conversations with our members about the special benefits they can enjoy.

I take this opportunity to thank Newspower members (too many to mention) who spent so much of their own time on the Newspower stand. Passionate, Motivated, Positive members who dedicate themselves to improving other's business as well as their own.
